Top Museums Around Israel

Travelers who come to Israel carefully plan their trips to ensure that they hit all the main attractions:  Masada, Dead Sea, Western Wall, Machane Yehuda Market, Ramon Crater, Golan/Galillee, and the beaches in Tel Aviv.  However, it's important to also visit the museums in Israel -- of which there are plenty!

Here are suggestions for some of the top museums in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv (and some in between):

Israel Museum - In Jerusalem, the Israel Museum recently re-opened to the public after a renewal project.  The Museum famously hosts the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Shrine of the Book (pictured right), as well as extensive archeology and modern art wings.  There is also a children's wing that is not to be missed for the younger generation!

The Tel Aviv Art Museum - This modern art museum is a must see!  Combining art work by both Israeli and international artists, you will find a selection of Cezanne, Monet, Chagall, and much more!  And in November 2011, a new wing (pictured left) debuted and now showcases five (5) floors of artwork.  The museum is open late until 10:00pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights, so it can be a great after-dinner stop!

Diaspora Museum - A short drive just north of Tel Aviv on the Tel Aviv University campus, you'll find a museum which chronicles Jewish life across the diaspora over 2,500 years.  If you're interested in Jewish history, this is definitely worth the trip!

Bauhaus Museum - There are more buildings in Tel Aviv built in Bauhaus style than in any other city in the world, so a visit to the Bauhaus Museum on the famous Bialik street is great one-stop shopping to learn about the history and development Bauhaus design in the heart of Tel Aviv.

Tower of David Museum - In the Old City of Jerusalem located a 2-minute walk from Jaffa Gate, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the history of Jerusalem and its significance to three religions. And be sure to stay for the evening Sound and Light Show Spectacular which highlights the story of Jerusalem.
